Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Assist in computing travel claims and staff imprest accounts and to check thoroughly supporting documents provided.

  • Assisting in maintaining a register of all receipt books and other units office supplies.
  • Assist in preparing bank reconciliations on a monthly basis and month end closure processes.
  • Assist in preparing on a monthly basis, the migrants prepayment statement.
  • Assist in preparing and dispatching monthly accounts to HQ’s after reviewing them with the Sr. Finance Assistant.
  • Assist in maintaining a filing system and to ensure proper custody and tracking of finance documents i.e. vouchers, bank correspondence etc.
  • Assist in invoicing staff for private use of IOM resources such as vehicles, Telephone and charter flights and to follow up for payment.
  • Assist in Registering Travel Authorizations and maintain and update the TA register.
  • Assist in reviewing on regular basis debtors and creditors’ accounts and initiate follow up messages for outstanding cases and provide timely feedback to the Sr. Finance Assistant.
  • Assist in preparing payment summaries for service provider invoices.
  • Assist with receipt summaries for income received.
  • Perform any duties as may be assigned

Programme Interns - 2 positions 


The ARRF Internship programme aims at providing valuable work experience to fresh graduates, holding Bachelors or Masters Degrees with a demonstrated interest in development policy research and analysis as well as in ICT/Library. 

Interns will be supervised by senior research/program staff for the duration of their internship. 

The minimum period for internship is three (3) Months while the maximum is six (6) months.

ARRF pays only modest stipend for the programme.

Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit for Somalia (FSNAU)

Background


The Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU)  consists of two major components.  i) The Food Security component which provides up to date quality food security information and  ii) The Nutrition component which focuses on the generation of good quality timely and appropriate nutrition information.  

In addition the unit conducts applied research to explore and report on the underlying causes to malnutrition and food insecurity in Somalia. 

Both food security and nutrition information are analysed in the relevant context and provided to decision-makers within the humanitarian community in Somalia for use in the design of both short and longer term food security, nutrition and livelihood related interventions.  

FSNAU places strong emphasis on partnerships with local authorities and international and local humanitarian organisations for the specific development of capacity in Somalia and the region.  

This includes the provision of capacity building in Nutrition Assessment in Emergencies to Masters Level Nutrition Students in the region. 

As a component of this capacity building FSNAU recognises the importance of practical hands on experience by Nutrition students in humanitarian agencies therefore FSNAU is providing an opportunity for one student at Graduate level in Nutrition for an internship at the unit in Nairobi.
FAO Somalia is looking for qualified an Nutrition Intern.


This internship will be for a period of three months from (July 2013 to September 2013), with the primary aim to use this period to impart technical knowledge on nutrition surveillance through on the job training.  

The intern will report directly to the FSNAU Nutrition Team Manager, and work in close consultation with the Nutrition Analysts. 

The intern will focus on the following tasks:

Tasks:


  • Assist in cleaning and entry of nutrition survey/assessments data, under the supervision of the relevant Nutrition Analysts and in close collaboration with the Data Entry Clerks.
  • Participate in the Gu 2013 seasonal analysis and dissemination workshops and meetings.
  • Attend Somalia Nutrition cluster meetings and other relevant cluster meetings in Nairobi.
  • Under the supervision of the Nutrition analyst who is the focal point on Capacity building, assist in the planning and preparation of nutrition surveys and assessments at Nairobi level.
  • In detail read the nutrition technical reports, updates and other relevant documents published from Gu season last year to date and ensure consistency in reporting of rates, confidence intervals, tables and information in text.
  • In close collaboration with Nutrition analysts assist in drafting, editing and finalizing articles for the nutrition updates/technical series.
  • Working closely with the Nutrition Data Analyst and Nutrition analysts, to ensure that data collected through the Health Information System, is received as required and updated; also assist in running basic analysis of this information.
  • Assist in on-going FSNAU nutrition related research initiatives, particularly in the form of literature searches, processing/compiling data, data analysis, technical writing and report editing.
  • Participate in relevant internal and external events such as meetings and trainings.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Minimum qualifications:


  • Candidates must be post graduate students pursuing a Master’s degree in Nutrition in Kenya or Somalia
  • Must be postgraduate student at a local public university
  • Should be computer literate
  • Previous work experience not mandatory
  • Strong critical thinking and writing ability
  • Strong English writing and editing skills
  • High degree of self-motivation and initiative
  • Willingness to learn and apply new analytical approaches
  • Strong skills in basic computer packages – Knowledge in EPI Info, ENA or EPI6 an added advantage

Deliverables/Expected Outputs

  • Excellent PHP programming skills
  • Strong skills in Java
  • Experience with Java development tools
  • Knowledge of databases and database systems
  • Proven experience in developing mobile applications using (J2ME, android)
  • Understanding of Web technologies
  • Experience working with common Internet technologies (e.g. CSS, HTML, and JavaScript)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to a non-technical audience
  • Strong ambition to adapt and learn new development technologies
  • Knowledge in Content Management Systems (CMS) will be an added advantage.

The hospital is part of a network of health facilities in East Africa which include: Clinics, Aga Khan Hospital Mombasa, Aga Khan Hospital Dar es salaam and Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi. 

It provides medical care to the population of western Kenya region and works with leading clinicians in the country in the management of complex cases.

The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu has attained acknowledgment of its quality by achieving ISO 9001:2008 accreditation, ISO 15189:2007 accreditation for laboratory services and is moving towards Joint Commission International Accreditation.

Medical Internship -2013


Applications are invited from medical graduates who have successfully completed their M.B.Ch, B (or equivalent) undergraduate degree and have been recommended to do their rotational internship. 

Successful candidates are expected to commence their internship from July 2013, for a period of one year.

Application Development Intern (AppDev)


Summary


The AppDev intern will have the responsibility of assisting the AppDev team develop applications in both web and mobile platforms. 

This position will also provide support to all employees; common sense and professionalism is required.

Responsibilities


  • Reviewing current systems
  • Presenting ideas for system improvements, including cost proposals
  • Working closely with analysts, designers and staff
  • Producing detailed specifications and writing the programme codes
  • Testing the product in controlled, real situations before going live
  • Preparation of training manuals for users
  • Maintaining the systems once they are up and running

Must have


  • knowledge in the following; PHP, MySQL, Linux, Apache
  • developed applications and must showcase them
  • a strong work ethic, organization skills.
  • the desire to learn and is not afraid to ask questions.
  • ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Dependable.
  • Ability to work under little supervision while meeting deliverable.

Working Conditions


  • Flexibility to work in shifts including weekend and graveyard whenever needed.
  • If you work for clients you'll have to spend a lot of time on their premises, so you might have to work away from home if the client is located far away.
